Vietnam’s trade surplus on goods fell to USD 1.06 billion in November 2024 from USD 1.54 billion in the same month of 2023, marking the 6th straight month of merchandise gain but the smallest surplus in sequence, as exports grew less than imports. Shipments rose by 8.2% yoy to USD 33.73 billion, led by shipments of electronics and garments, while imports climbed by 9.8% to USD 32.67 billion. For the 1st eleven months of 2024, the trade surplus narrowed to USD 24.31 billion from USD 26.2 billion in the same period last year, with exports and imports rising by 14.4% and 16.4% each. The US is Vietnam’s largest export market, with an estimated turnover of USD 108.9 billion. During this period, total shipments of industrial goods reached USD 295.53 billion, accounting for 88.0% of total exports. China remained the biggest import market, with an approximate value of USD 130.2 billion. Imports of primary production materials totaled USD 323.72 billion, representing 93.7% of total purchases.
