The number of job openings decreased by 194,000 to 7.568 million in February 2025 from an upwardly revised 7.762 million in January and below market expectations of 7.63 million. Job openings decreased in retail trade (-126,000), finance and insurance (-80,000), health care and social assistance (-46,000), leisure and hospitality (-61,000) and manufacturing (-31,000). Regarding regional distribution, job openings fell in the Northeast (-34,000), the South (-74,000), the Midwest (-34,000) and in the West (-51,000). Meanwhile, hires and total separations held at 5.4 million and 5.3 million, respectively. Within separations, quits (3.2 million) and layoffs and discharges (1.8 million) changed little.
