The number of individuals filing for unemployment benefits in the US fell by 12,000 from the previous week to 216,000 on the period ending October 26th, reaching the same level of mid-May of this year, and well below market expectations of 230,000. The decline reinforced the view that the U.S. labor market remains resilient to the Federal Reserve's restrictive interest rates, bolstering expectations that the central bank will hold off on further aggressive rate cuts in upcoming decisions. The 4-week moving average for initial jobless which excludes volatility, fell to 236.50 thousand. Moreover, continuing jobless claims fell to 1862 thousand, well below forecasts of 1890 thousand. Meanwhile, the non-seasonally adjusted initial claim count fell by 3,349 to 200,132, with marked declines noted in North Carolina (-2,969), Florida (-2,692), and California (-1,580). On the other hand, claims rose in New York (+2,061), Michigan (+1,854) and Illinois (+1,057).
