The Dallas Fed's general business activity index for Texas manufacturing dropped 8 points to -16.3 in March 2025, reaching its lowest level since July 2024 and signaling a further worsening of business conditions in the sector. Other measures of manufacturing activity showed mixed results. The production index jumped 15 points to 6.0, while the new orders index improved slightly, rising three points to zero. The shipments index remained positive and steady at 6.1, and the capacity utilization index, though still negative, edged up six points to -2.3. Meanwhile, sentiment among firms weakened further. The company outlook index dropped to an eight-month low of -10.7, and the outlook uncertainty index surged 7 points to 36.2, its highest level since fall 2022. Labor market indicators pointed to declining headcounts and slightly shorter workweeks in March. Input cost pressures ticked higher, while wage growth and selling price pressures remained stable.
