Turkey’s trade deficit widened to USD 7.77 billion in February 2025 from USD 6.77 billion in the same month of the previous year. Exports fell 1.6% year-on-year to USD 20.76 billion, mainly due to lower sales in manufacturing (-2%). However, outbound shipments increased in agriculture, forestry, and fishing (+3.2%) and mining and quarrying (+0.8%). Turkey’s largest export destination was Germany, accounting for 8.1% of total shipments, followed by the UK (6%), the US (5.8%), Italy (5.2%), and Iraq (4.9%). Meanwhile, imports rose 2.4% to USD 28.53 billion, driven by higher purchases of intermediate goods (+8.2%) and a surge in other goods (+408.8%). The top import sources were Russia (13.5%), China (12.5%), Germany (7.5%), the US (7.5%), and Switzerland (4.3%). For the first two months of the year, the trade deficit expanded to USD 15.31 billion from USD 12.95 billion.
