Thailand's trade surplus slumped to USD 0.39 billion in September 2024 from USD 2.09 billion in the same month of the previous year, smaller than market forecasts of USD 1.54 billion. Exports increased 1.1% from a year earlier to USD 25.98 billion, slowing strongly from August's 7.0%, compared to the market forecast of a 2.9% growth. Meanwhile, purchases grew by 9.9% to USD 25.59 billion, the fourth straight month of growth, accelerating from August's 8.9%, above estimates of 6%. For the first nine months of 2024, the trade balance posted a deficit of USD 5.96 billion, with exports (3.9%) rising less than imports (5.5%).
