Taiwan’s trade surplus narrowed to USD 6.95 billion in March 2025 from USD 8.70 billion a year earlier, falling short of market expectations of USD 7.90 billion. Imports surged 28.8% year-on-year to USD 42.62 billion, mainly driven by higher purchases of ICT products (+81.2%), machinery (+75.1%), and electronic parts (+0.1%). Meanwhile, exports rose at a slower pace of 18.6% to USD 49.57 billion, primarily due to increased shipments of ICT products (+34%) and electronic parts (+19.3%). For the first quarter of the year, the trade surplus widened to USD 23.57 billion from USD 19.11 billion in the same period last year, as exports grew by 17.5% and imports rose by 16.3%.
