Spain’s inflation rate rose to 3% in February 2025, its highest level since last June, marking its fifth consecutive monthly increase and confirming the preliminary estimate. The primary factor behind this increase was the cost of housing and utilities, which jumped to 9.8% from 7.9% in January, driven largely by rising electricity prices (20.7% vs 15.6%). Prices also advanced faster for other CPI items, including communications (2% vs 1.2%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.2% vs 1.8%). The core rate, excluding volatile items like food and energy, was 2.2% in February, the lowest since December 2021, slightly above the earlier reading of 2.1%. Monthly, the CPI increased by 0.4%, in line with the preliminary estimate, following a 0.2% rise in January. Meanwhile, the EU-harmonized CPI rose by 2.9% year-on-year; and increased by 0.4% over a month, both in line with the earlier estimates.
