Slovakia's trade surplus narrowed sharply to EUR 140.9 million in August 2024 from EUR 505.2 million in the same month last year, as exports dropped while imports increased. Exports fell 3.8% year-on-year to EUR 8,142.3 million, primarily due to lower sales for machinery and transport equipment, particularly motor vehicles. Exports to the EU and non-EU countries decreased 3.1% and 6%, respectively. Meanwhile, imports edged up 0.6% to EUR 8,001.4 million, driven by a rise in the import of mineral fuels. Arrivals from the EU grew 2.6%, while those from non-EU countries declined 3.2%. For the January to August period, the country's trade surplus fell to EUR 3,172.9 million from EUR 3,468.3 million in the corresponding period a year ago.
