Food prices in Singapore increased by 2.7% year-on-year in July 2024 after a 2.8% rise in the prior three months, notching their softest gain since February 2022. Within food, excluding food servicing services, cost continued to rise for bread & cereals (0.6% vs 3.6% in June), milk, cheese & eggs (1.3% vs 1.3%), non-alcoholic beverages (1.8% vs 2.6%), oils & fats (2.2% vs 1.7%), vegetables (3.4% vs 4.7%), and other food (4.0% vs 5.1%) while rebounding for fruits (1.1% vs -0.7%). By contrast, prices fell for meat (-1.4% vs -0.9%), fish & seafood (-4.9% vs -5.0%), and preserves & confectionery (-3.7% vs 1.6%). Among food servicing services, prices grew further for restaurant foods (4.3% vs 4.4%), fast foods (3.1% vs 3.4%), hawker food (3.3% vs 3.4%), and catered food (2.6% vs 3.3%).
