The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands slowed to 3.5% in September 2024, edging down from 3.6% in the previous month, preliminary estimates showed. Prices continued to decline for energy including motor fuels (-6.1% vs -3.3% in August), while costs eased for services (5.6% vs 5.8%). On the other hand, inflation accelerated for food, beverages and tobacco (6% vs 5.6%), and costs rebounded for industrial goods (0.4% vs -0.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices are likely to fall 0.5%, after a prior 0.3% rise in August. In the meantime, the harmonized CPI, which is used to compare with other EU member states, is expected to rise 3.3% year-on-year, matching the same pace as in the preceding month.
