The unemployment rate in Malaysia declined to 3.2% in September 2024 from 3.4% in the same month of the previous year. The latest figure remained the lowest level since January 2020, with the number of unemployed falling by 3.2% year-on-year to a 55-month low of 555.3 thousand people, while employment increased by 1.9% to a new high of 16.69 million. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate climbed to 70.5% in September from 70.1% in the same month a year earlier. In August 2024, the unemployment rate stood at 3.2%.
