The Bank of Indonesia maintained its benchmark interest rate at 5.75% during its March 2025 meeting, aligning with market expectations. This decision supports the central bank’s ongoing efforts to keep inflation within its target range of 2.5±1% for 2025 and 2026, while also ensuring the stability of the Rupiah amid heightened global uncertainty and supporting economic growth. Annual consumer prices in Indonesia fell to 0.09% in February 2025, marking the first deflation since March 2000, mainly influenced by the electricity tariff discount policy for households with specific electricity capacities. Meanwhile, the Rupiah appreciated by 0.94% against the US dollar as of March 18, 2025, primarily attributed to reduced foreign capital inflows into regional stock markets, including Indonesia, as global uncertainty weighed on investor sentiment. The Bank of Indonesia also kept the overnight deposit rate and lending facility rate unchanged at 5% and 6.5%, respectively.
