Ghana recorded a 6.9% annual economic growth in Q2 2024, the highest in five years, following an upwardly revised 4.8% rise in the previous three-month period. All three key sectors saw increased output, with the services sector growing by 5.8% and continuing to be the largest contributor to the economy. The industrial sector expanded by 9.3%, driven by mining and quarrying, with the gold sector growing by 23.6% for the third consecutive quarter. Agriculture grew by 5.4%, despite the cocoa subsector contracting for the fourth straight quarter by 26.2%. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, GDP rose by 1.6% in Q2, up from 1.2% in the previous quarter. The gold-, oil-, and cocoa-rich country is emerging from a lengthy debt restructuring and is currently in the second year of an International Monetary Fund program that has involved tough austerity measures.
