Finland’s trade deficit widened sharply to EUR 0.33 billion in October 2024 from EUR 0.03 billion from the corresponding month of the previous year, preliminary estimates showed. Exports advanced by 1.1% year-on-year to EUR 6.3 billion, supported by higher sales to EU countries (3.7%), while shipments continued to decline to non-EU countries (-2.6%). Among trading partners, exports increased mainly to Germany (3.2%), Sweden (7.7%), and China (8.5%). Meanwhile, imports rose by 5.9% to EUR 6.7 billion, driven by increased purchases from EU countries (0.4%) and non-EU countries (14%). Imports grew mostly from Germany (4.6%), China (17%), and the US (15.1%). For the first ten months of the year, the country’s trade deficit increased to EUR 2 billion from EUR 1.6 billion in the same period of last year.
