Consumer confidence in the Euro Area fell by 0.7 points from the previous month to -14.5 in December 2024, marking the second consecutive month of deterioration and aligning with preliminary figures. This was the lowest reading since April this year, with the index remaining below its long-term average. In the broader European Union, consumer sentiment fell by 1 point to -13.4, marking its second consecutive monthly decline. Consumers became notably more pessimistic about the general economic situation in their respective country and their intentions to make major purchases. By contrast, consumers’ views about their households’ expected financial situation and past financial situation remained largely unchanged.
