Estonia’s trade deficit widened to EUR 331 million in January 2025 from EUR 246 million a year earlier, as imports grew faster than exports. Year-on-year, imports climbed 16% to EUR 1,839 million, driven by higher purchases from both EU (+9%) and non-EU (+57%) countries. Among commodities, notable increases were seen in wood and wood articles (+27%), plastics and rubber (+27%), and machinery and mechanical appliances (+26%). Meanwhile, exports advanced 13% to EUR 1,507 million, with sales rising to both EU (+11%) and non-EU (+19%) markets. Key export gains were recorded in optical, measuring, and precision instruments (+45%), mineral products (+37%), and wood and wood articles (+23%).
