Chile's trade surplus widened to USD 1,132 million in August 2024, from USD 482 million in the corresponding period of the previous year, as imports fell while exports rose. Effectively, imports from Chile declined 7.3% year-on-year to USD 6,879 million, as purchases fell for capital goods (-10.9% to USD 1,419 million), consumer goods (-7.3% to USD 2,023 million), and intermediate goods (-3.6% to USD 4,014 million). Meanwhile, exports from Chile increased by 1.4% year-on-year to USD 8,012 million, mainly due to higher shipments of minerals (+7.6% to USD 4,707 million).
