Brésil Taux d'inflation

Annual inflation rate in Brazil came in at 4.83% in December 2024, little changed from 4.87% in November. Inflation softened for housing and utilities (3.06% vs 4% in November), with cost for residential electricity falling 0.37%. On the other hand, prices rose slightly more for food and beverages (7.69% vs 7.63%), transportation (3.3% vs 3.11% in October), and personal spending (5.13% vs 4.98%). Compared to the previous month, the CPI went up 0.52%, above 0.39% in November. Biggest upward contribution came from cost of food and beverages (1.18%) and transportation (0.67%), namely meat (5.26%), soybean oil (5.12%), ground coffee (4.99%) and airline tickets (4.54%). In contrast, prices for housing and utilities fell 0.56%, led by a 3.19% drop in residential electricity after the return of the green tariff flag in December, which eliminates additional charges on bills. In 2024, inflation was 4.83%, above 4.62% in 2023.
